International Symposium on Hierarchical Flow Systems in Karst Regions

The symposium will be organized by the Regional Groundwater Flow Commission and the Karst Commission of IAH and the Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis Commission of the International Union of Speleology (UIS).

The symposium and the training course will be held at the Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, Hungary, 2-7 September 2013.

The event honours Professor József Tóth, "the father of the flow system theory" and the first Chair of the Regional Groundwater Flow Commission of IAH, in celebration of his 80th birthday.

The main objective of the symposium is to promote the integration of the theory of hierarchical flow systems into karst hydrogeology. It aims to bring together hydrogeologists, geologists and speleologists working on carbonate aquifers to broaden their understanding and knowledge of the flow-system approach in karst systems, and to understand groundwater flow induced karst manifestations and the economic importance of deep carbonate systems.
