Course information
Title of the course:
Regional geology I.
Responsible for teaching:
Dr. János Geiger
Other teachers:
Dr. Gergely Dabi
Dr. Balázs Kiss
Type of the course:
Professional course
Description
Prerequisite:
Petrotectonics, Depositonary systems, Parallel execution of the practice exam is a prerequisite
Brief description of the lecture:
Geology of the Alps-Carpathian-Dinarian system. Geological history of the Tisza-Megaunit with special regard to the Great Plain. The concept of the Tisza-Megaunit (Tisia terrane). Formation and evolution of the Pannonian Basin.
Applied geological consequences of the geology of the Great Plain; hydrocarbon reservoirs, geothermal energy utilisation, drinking-water potentials, potential waste material.
Practical Course:
- Recognise the rock-forming material of the most important lithostratigraphic units in the Great Plain including their formation, facies and fossils. Put them into the geological history of the given structural units.
- Give a complex interpretation of databases and the literature related to the applied geological problems of the Great Plain (hydrocarbon reservoirs, geothermal energy utilisation, drinking-water potentials, potential waste material).
