Brief description of the lecture:
1. Getting familiar with the various “hand specimen” methods for field research concerning mineralogy-petrology, palaeontology and hydrogeography. The application of these methods at reference territories.
Geological explanation of the field work, field techniques (previous studies, equipment, field minutes, appointing the spatial position of the geological territory), the description of the natural excavations in case of different rock types, hand specimens and their explanations (collecting hand specimens, defining the texture and the structure of them, classification of minerals, the genetic classification of hand specimens in the field, determining the inclusions and the fossils of hand specimens), hydrogeological measurements.
2. Geological mapping on a reference territory (the use of the geological compass in the field, spatial setting of the layers’ position, depicting the quality and the geological age of the rocks on maps, constructing geological sections).
3. Present the structural elements of the Carpathian-Pannonian region in the field.
